Situated in the heart of Woodmead North Office Park, The New Home for Oracle South Africa is strategically located alongside the N1 highway, boasting great visibility from the Buccleauch interchange with an average traffic of 155 000 vehicles a day. Commissioned by Zenprop, the vision was to deliver a 4-star green rated, 3 story building, comprising of 4332m2 of creative high-end office space and 80 bay basement. The building accommodates amenities such as multipurpose meeting rooms, restaurant, multi faith room, podium gardens, outside braai/bar and gym all equipped with very high-level access control throughout.
The construction commenced on 23 April 2018 and was developed over a 10 month period with completion at February 2019. During this time we were capturing the progress of this new commercial office building to create another amazing longterm timelapse. This building was designed by the architects Empowered Spaces Architects while managed by @ Hart Property with Archstone international as the contractor. The aesthetics of the building strive to communicate simplicity, technology, and creativity for Oracle head office. The building form is generated by these and broken down into 3 major design elements being site, vessel and entrance. The entrance embodies this idea of movement with the its pronounced, double open “U” in Oracle’s corporate colour punched through large charcoal mass with random slit windows. The effect created is a portal from busy external to the tranquil enclosed light triple volume cathedral like foyer.
Attention was payed to reduce the carbon footprint and improve building running efficiency informed the choice of materials used as well as the building technology utilized. This was taken a step further by integrating all of these back to a Building Management System and allowing for live feed and usage management of water, electricity, lifts, pumps and optimizing thermal comfort in building with HVAC, with uv panels to be added later this should improve building to 5-star green rated. The result is a building that showcases technological edge that is fit for purpose, ecologically conscious and highly adaptable for Oracle’s current and future visions.
